Tradivia: artificial intelligence for passenger information in public transport in the Paris region

This summer, the Paris region is hosting the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
During this international event, millions of spectators, from all over the world and speaking different languages, will use public transport to get around and enjoy the competition.
Good communication between tourists and the 3,300 RATP agents present in stations will be crucial to make their trips easier and improve their experience. It is an exceptional moment.
Tradivia, a new instant translation tool to significantly improve passenger information on the Paris regional transport network
To ensure information is correctly transmitted and ensure a positive experience for millions of tourists on the transport network, Île-de-France Mobilités has invested two million euros in the deployment of Tradivia. It is an instant translation system developed by RATP and powered by artificial intelligence.
What is Tradivia?
Tradivia (for Trad-uction- de l’Information Voyageur par Intelligence Artificielle) is an automatic translation system. This means that the system can instantly translate various types of information across 17 languages:
● a text,
● speech in one language to text in another (a very useful function to improve accessibility of information for hearing-impaired passengers),
● speech to audio in a different language,
● audible announcements in the event of disruptions. This feature is only available into the six official languages of the Paris 2024 Games: English, German, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin and Arabic,
● text-based information on digital media as well as on information screens on the metro and RER A and B.
Tradivia will be available for use by 3,300 agents on special tablets throughout the period of the Games. After the Paris 2024 Games it will benefit the 50 million tourists who visit Paris and its region every year.
On which lines will Tradivia tool be available?
After an initial experiment on Metro Lines 1 and 14 and on the RER B, Tradivia will gradually be rolled out to all metro lines, RER Lines A and B and trams T3a and T3b, between now and the start of the Paris 2024 Games .
Before the end of 2024, all tram lines will also be equipped.

Is Tradivia available across the Ile-de-France public transport network?
Not yet. In addition to the 3,300 agents equipped with tablets, a study is underway to install the translation tool on the smartphones of all other agents in the network including on buses and other RER lines.

This app, dedicated to public transport during the Paris 2024 Games, is already available for download on iOS and Android devices.
The Paris 2024 Public Transport app is available in English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and French.
The Transport Public Paris 2024 app be used to:
● Receive traffic information in real time,
● Consult local access plans for competition and celebration venues,
● Use a route planner incorporating official recommendations for travel during the Paris 2024 Games period (these are the “Paris 2024 Routes” recognisable by their pink colour in the app)
● Buy the transport ticket recommended for spectators, the Paris 2024 Pass.
