Passenger information is reinventing itself

In the Paris region, passenger information is undergoing a makeover, with new accessible screens on metro platforms, state-of-the-art information terminals at bus stops, and multilingual customer service staff. Let’s see what's new.

Panam, the new metro passenger information screens

What is the difference between the old screens and the new ones?

The new screens display:

  • waiting time between the next two metros
  • real-time service status
  • fully accessible information (with an enlarged font, reinforced contrasts and definition and better sound diffusion of information messages).

New outdoor information terminals for buses

Between 2025 and 2032, a total of nine thousand outdoor bus information terminals will be replaced. The goal is to standardise passenger information across the Île-de-France region and enhance its quality. The upgraded terminals will display waiting times for the next and following buses, provide information on the number of upcoming buses, and offer traffic-related updates in case of disruptions.

Passenger loads on trains in real time

For the first time in France, a real-time passenger information system is being deployed on train Lines H, J, K, L, N, and R, on part of Line P and on the RER E.

This system, fully funded by Île-de-France Mobilités, presents real-time information on the passenger load of approaching trains on information screens on platforms.

The objective is to deploy the system on all trains able to measure passenger load (half of the current fleet) and improve comfort and on time performance on the network.

TRAdivIA: customer service staff now speak 17 languages

Thanks to TRAdivIA, a cutting-edge translation system fully funded by Île-de-France Mobilités, passengers can now ask for directions in Korean, Romanian, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, and 12 other languages. This sophisticated system, powered by artificial intelligence, is now available on all metro lines, RER Lines A and B, as well as tram T3a and T3b.

TRAdivIA, installed on tablets used by 3,300 customer service staff across the network, offers a range of capabilities:

1. Translating text from one language to another

2. Transcribing speech from one language into text in another language

3. Vocalising text from one language into speech in another language

As a lasting legacy of the Paris 2024 Games, TRAdivIA will continue to benefit the region, as the Paris area welcomes nearly 50 million tourists each year.
