1949

Creation of the Office Régional des Transports Parisiens (ORTP)

1959

Creation of the Syndicat des Transports Parisiens (STP)

1969

The first section of the RER A opens, between Nation and Boissy-Saint-Léger, after seven years work

1975

The “Carte Orange” Travel Card is launched

1991

The STP’s responsibilities are extended to the entire Île-de-France region 

1992

After 35 years absence, the return of trams to Île-de-France with the inauguration of the T1 between Bobigny and Saint-Denis

1998

Commissioning of Line 14, a fully automatic metro

1999

Inauguration of the RER E, between Haussmann and Gournay

2000

The STP is superseded by the Syndicat des transports d'Île-de-France (STIF) and the Île-de-France region joins the STIF Board of Directors

2001

First “Navigo Intégrale” Travel Cards

2004

National government transfers its powers to the Ile-de-France authorities

2006

  • The president of the regional council automatically becomes president of STIF.
  • The T3 tram opens connecting “Pont du Garigliano” to “Porte d'Ivry”. This tram line carries most passengers in central Paris, with an average of 100,000 passengers per day

2009

The “Navigo” and “Navigo Découverte” Travel Cards permanently replace the “Carte Orange” Travel Card

2010

The “Francilien” train enters service, the first train created for Île-de-France

2011

Automation of the entire metro Line 1, without any need to interrupt operations, a world first

2015

The “Navigo” Travel Card gives passengers access to the Île-de-France network at one single price across all zones

2017

Launch of the Île-de-France Mobilités brand

2019

  • The “Navigo” pass and “T+” tickets now available on smartphones
  • Launch of the first long-term electric bike rental service, “Véligo Location”
  • Order passed for 800 electric buses
  • First public tendering and concession awarded for Line T9 tram

2020

STIF becomes Île-de-France Mobilités

2021

Bus contracts in the outer suburbs opened up to competitive tenders
